Dr. Başak Ergil, teaches at Üsküdar University in Istanbul, Turkey. She holds an MA in Translation Studies from Boğaziçi University and a PhD in Translation Studies from Istanbul University. She also works as a translator and editor. The Image of Nâzım Hikmet and His Poetry in Anglo-American Literary Systems, which has been published in both Turkish and English, is her work. Her primary areas of interest and expertise are translation ethics, translation criticism, translational recanonization, translating cultural and communal memory, translation theory, and translating theater and drama. Her primary area of study is how theatrical texts are translated and reworked in both Western and non-Western cultures.
