The year is 2025, and the setting is a luxurious master bathroom in an opulent hotel in Norway.
Today is Hamlet and Ophelia’s wedding day.
Through a deal with Fortinbras, the Prince of Norway, Hamlet decides to abandon his quest for revenge against his father’s murder. Instead, he agrees to receive a substantial fortune to allow him to live the rest of his life in comfort and peace.
Behind the scenes, however, it is Claudius who has orchestrated this arrangement, instructing Fortinbras to seal the deal as hush money. As part of this agreement, all expenses for Hamlet and Ophelia’s grand wedding are covered at this lavish hotel.
On the morning of the wedding, Hamlet steps into the masterbathroom of the hotel suite, only to be plagued once again by familiar nightmares and hallucinations. Elsewhere in the hotel, Horatio, Rosencrantz, Guildenstern, and Laertes are also present as guests at the wedding. Hamlet interacts with them through phonecalls, as well as with his mother, uncle, and others. Hamlet’s existential dilemma of “to be or not to be” transforms into a question of “to have or not to have. ”
This play is influenced by the theories of Jan Kott, Freud, and Lacan, which shape its writing and execution.
